How are Holland Cattle Co. cattle raised? Cattle are designed by God to graze and thrive on grasses and forages. The native pasture environment we provide means healthier animals and better tasting meat. Holland Cattle Co. and partner's ranch pastures are maintained with minimal interference from human hands to keep our land in the most natural state, in turn helps maintain water quality and provides natural habitat for our livestock and abundant wildlife. Holland Cattle Co. has been raising cattle and sheep for over 175 years and we are proud to continue the tradition of raising wholesome, natural beef.
Do you ever use hormones, antibiotics, vaccines or MrNA? NO. NEVER. NOT EVER!
Do you offer GRASS FINISHED or GRAIN FINISHED? We offer BOTH. Holland Cattle Co. offers grass-fed and finished beef. We partner with other Holland families and Circle B Ranch (a Holland relative) in Burnet County who raise grass fed/grain finished cattle to provide to our grain finished calves customers.
What is GRAIN FINISHED to Holland Cattle Company? We are NOT THE NORM. At the Holland Cattle Co. partner ranches, grain finished beef means the calf is born in the pasture, raised by a cow who is 100% grass fed. The calf is then grazed on 100% native grasses until 60-90 days before processing. At this point, the calf is still fully pastured and grazing, however it is offered a custom grain blend made in Llano, Texas to supplement his grass-fed diet. This will create slight fat marbling and higher fat content, as many meat-etarians prefer.
Who will process my beef? Hibler & Son Custom Processing in San Saba, Texas, a local, Texas State Inspected & Approved, family-owned butcher shop processes cattle and lamb for Holland Cattle Co.
How will my beef be processed? All whole beef and half beef comes with custom processing. Custom processing mean the customer gets to decide how the beef is cut; for example what fat percentage is in the ground beef, types of steaks cut, how thick the steaks are cut, which roasts are cut, etc.
All beef cuts are vacuum packed to extended freshness. The Holland Cattle Co. beef is dry-aged at least 14 days to maximize tenderness and flavor.
Does the beef cost include the MEAT & PROCESSING? YES, the price charged by Holland Cattle Co. includes the BEEF and the PROCESSING cost combined.
How do your prices compare to grocery store prices? When buying a whole or half beef, the cost is LESS than the grocery store prices for grass-fed beef! Keep in mind, this includes the more expensive cuts of meat average and the less expensive cuts of meat. Our price per pound cost less than grocery store prices when averaging all the meat cuts together.
Why does each beef cost a different amount? Many factors come into play when the actual TOTAL PRICE is calculated using the official Hanging Weight (which is not determined until processing). The determining factor is the size of the calf on the processing day. We try our best to stay within our live weight range that we state on our Beef Page, however, each calf is a bit different, which is reflecting in the final cost.
What is the WEIGHT BREAKDOWN of a GRASS FED Calf? We process our Grass-fed calves just after weaning with their live weight approximately 650-700 lb.
